SUMMARY
The primary role of the Mortgage Loan Officer is to establish and support relationships with Realtors, Builders, and various Affinity Partners that we engage in business, to fulfill our mission of building a better financial future for those we serve by understanding each individuals need so they can secure a mortgage loan that is appropriate for their individual financial circumstances and achieve their homeownership goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Responsible for promotion of the Mission, Vision and Values of First Federal Bank of Kansas City.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with realtors, builders (including New Home Sales Professionals), and other affinity partners in order to develop and retain existing business opportunities.
  • Responsible for cross-promotion of all First Federal Bank’s products and services (including, but not limited to Retail Banking products).
  • Responsible for monitoring overall customer interaction and interfaces with all parties involved on each individual loan from application to closing, including but not limited to credit counseling to and pre-qualifying potential home buyers.
  • Responsible for the origination of mortgage loan applications in accordance with the Banks goals and objectives. Meets loan origination goals as agreed.
  • Responsible for knowing details of affordable housing products, including MHDC, HEDFC, FHLBank, KSAP, FHA, USDA, FNMA Home Ready and FNMA My Community Mortgage programs, and any other such programs to benefit borrowers in acquiring affordable housing.
  • Loan origination includes, but is not limited to the screening and obtaining of support documentation and the submitting of loan applications for review and processing.
  • Develops leads on potential loan sources for business development and loan solicitation purposes.
  • Takes loan applications, collects sufficient financial and personal data from borrowers to enable First Federal Bank underwriters to make informed decisions as to the borrower's qualifications.
  • Assists with follow-up in the processing of approved loans.
  • Responsible for promotion and delivery of quality internal and external customer service. Provides Quality Customer Service by answering customer inquiries regarding loans and delivers prompt communication at all stages of the loan process to all parties involved.
  • Reports on business calls and completes other required reports.
  • Participates in civic organizations and activities to increase public's knowledge of First Federal and our services.
  • Complies with all applicable banking laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, and related anti-money laundering statutes; and, federal consumer protection legislation and regulations.

SUPERVISION
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of successful home mortgage origination experience including the taking of applications and proven follow through.
  • Requires knowledge of current FNMA/FHLMC/GNMA underwriting guidelines.
  • Prior business development experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • This role requires the individual to be bilingual in English and Spanish.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
NMLS Registration

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
PC experience required, preferably loan processing software.
